Dr. Casey Kochevar volunteers to Cape CARES (Central American Relief Efforts), a nonprofit humanitarian organization that delivers community-based primary, medical and dental care in rural Honduras. Cape CARES is focused on team-centered treatment, preventive care, health education and training that supports the long-term needs of the communities it serves.
Several times a year, Cape CARES brigades travel to remote regions of Honduras where access to dental care can be limited by distance, resources and infrastructure. The organization emphasizes continuity of care by returning regularly, so patients and families can be treated and followed over time instead of receiving only one-time services.
During these trips, Dr. Kochevar joins a volunteer team that provides free dental services to individuals and families in rural communities, including areas where clinics may have limited electricity and care is often delivered with the supplies and daylight available. That setting requires flexibility, steady hands and a focus on the basics that matter most: relieving pain, addressing urgent needs, and helping patients protect their oral health going forward.
Cape CARES operates clinics in locations such as Los Encinitos and San Marcos, in Honduras’ “dry corridor,” where the challenges of geography and climate can make health care access even harder for families. Dr. Kochevar is proud to be part of work that meets people where they are and treats every patient with compassion and respect.
